The Philippine music is a combination of quite a number of influences that the country have had. Filipinos are mostly in love with music, culture and the arts. Every Filipino since born has a strong inclination to music. You will hear people singing while taking a bath, while cooking, while doing household chores and mostly during free time. Filipino families usually spend their leisure time singing in karaoke otherwise known as videoke. The country has a wide array of music genre, from the classical, to modern, name it and the Filipinos definitely sing it. This love for music has paved the way for Filipinos to be known around the globe. Great artists Leah Salonga, Billy Joe Crawford, American Idol finalist Jasmine Trias are Filipinos who made it in the International Music scene.
Philippines also embraces a wide variety of music forms, some from European, American and Spanish influence. Most of this forms of music that the Philippines is known for are:
1. Harana A form of courtship music. A man woos a woman by singing outside her window at night. The main accompaniment for harana is guitar.
2. Kundiman Another form of music used to express emotions of love, promise of genuine love, or forlorn pleading of a lover willing to sacrifice everything for the loved one, or melancholic call of a dumped lover or in some others are stories of unreciprocated love.
