The Filipino cuisine has a distinct and exquisite taste that has evolved over generations with Spanish, American, Mexican, European and Chinese influence. Aside from that Filipino delicacies are as well unique. It emphasizes a real Filipino taste. Below are desserts and delicacies in the Philippines:
1. Balut - a fertilized duck egg allowed to develop until the embryo reach a pre-determined size to be boiled. The price range from 7 to 10 pesos.
2. Bibingka - a white rice cake usually served with white cheese slices on top or grated coconut.
3. Biko - a native sweet rice Filipino delicacy creamed with coconut, sugar and butter.
4. Taho - is a warm snack made of soft beancurd (the taho itself), dark syrup, and tapioca balls. Every morning a vendor walks around a village to sell this nutritious drink.
5. Betamax - not as what many would think, its another food in the Philippines. Grilled dried chicken blood. Shaped in cubes with a black color that you could probably say that its close to a small betamax tape. Usually sold along the streets.
6. Isaw - These are grilled chicken intestines. Its considered a street food.
7. Salted eggs - Who says eggs are all white? In the Philippines youll see fuchsia-pink eggs otherwise known as salted eggs. These are duck eggs that have been cured in brine or mixture of clay and salt for couple and weeks then hard-boiled. Filipinos call it itlog na pula and used as a side dish.
8. Kesong puti - A white cheese made out of fresh carabao's milk.
9. Leche flan - An all-time favorite dessert. Caramel custard made with eggs and milk.
10. Puto - Multi-colored and white sweet steamed rice muffins. Usually served with cheese slices on top.
