Vaccinations

There are no special immunizations necessary for travel to Italy. Among a few of the recommended vaccinations travelers need to get prior to international travel are the following:

1. Measles-mumps-rubella - two doses for all travelers born after 1956.

2. Tetanus-Diptheria - recommended for all travelers who have not received a tetanus-diphtheria immunization within the last 10 years.

3. Influenza - recommended for all travelers during flu season from November to April but should not be given to pregnant women during the first trimester or those who are allergic to eggs.

Rabbies are common in Alps. Vaccination before arrival should be considered. Other risks include sandfly fever found in coastal regions and lyme disease transmitted by deer ticks that usually occur in the late spring and summer.
