France has a very extensive and efficient network of trains. It is the easiest and most economical way to travel within and outside of France. Most have first and second class, and their tariffs are reasonable. Eurail passes and Youth passes are valid in France; these passes must be purchased before leaving the States, as they cannot be purchased in Europe. The TGV Atlantique (Train à Grande Vitesse) is the fastest train in the world. It speeds throughout France and now offers direct transportation to many other European cities.
