Dances

Culture and geography have big impact on French traditional dancing. It is similar to the hypnotic circle dance of Brittany and the wild Fandangos of the Basque country.

French dance is divided into 4 cultural and regional categories:

1. Central France - include Bourres, Mazurkas, Waltz, Branles and Scottish.
2. Brittany - divided into Western (Basse Bretagne) and Eastern (Haute Bretagne).
3. Bearn - include Bran'le d'Ossau, Sauts and rondeaux.
4. Basque country - sauts and fandangos
5. Alps - include rigodon and English country dancing.
6. Alsace - include waltz, swiefachers and contredanses
