French music is one of the most famous in the world. France is known as the center for European music. The country is known for folk as well as French techno/ funk, and pop music. France folk music is popular for hurdy gurdy or vielle-a-roue. This instrument is made up of a curved, oval body, a number of drones and strings.

Neo- classical music blossomed in France during the 20th century. Spectral music which is a kind of computer- assisted composition is so far the most distinctive French contribution in musical breakthroughs. Spectral music was given recognition only recently in the United States although it has long been accepted by European composers.
