Tipping in France

In French restaurants, a 15% tip (servis compris) is already included in the check. This is required by the French government since tips are also gauged in taxation. Because of this, a tip is no longer necessary.

However, giving a tip is still up to the customer. Usually, one to five euros are given as a tip in restaurants. Giving small tip is not an obligation though. Tipping is an act of generosity for a good service received and is never mandatory.
